I decided to track my blood sugar levels after treating myself to Chateraise's "Freshly Squeezed Milk Bar - Coffee Flavor." As expected, my numbers shot up post-indulgence. Thanks to the high fat content of the ice cream, my glucose spiked quickly and then lingered at a high level for quite a while.

  • Ingredients & Nutrition: This treat is officially classified as premium "ice cream" with a relatively high milk fat content of 9.0%. Since dietary fat slows down digestion and delays carb absorption, my blood sugar didn't just spike immediately—it remained elevated well into the night.

[Quick Summary]

  • Right before 10:00 PM, I was heading into low blood sugar territory. My glucose had dipped to 69 mg/dL, but it spiked dramatically after eating the ice cream bar.
  • At its peak, my glucose reached 199 mg/dL, creating a massive spike with a total fluctuation of +105 mg/dL.
  • Even past 11:30 PM, my levels refused to come down, staying elevated for quite some time.

[Blood Sugar Data After Eating the Ice Cream]

  • Around 10:00 PM: Started on the lower side, right around 69 mg/dL just before eating.
  • 10:00 PM – 11:30 PM: Levels began climbing immediately after eating, steadily rising over the next hour and a half.
  • Around 11:30 PM: Reached my peak for the night at 199 mg/dL, where the rise finally plateaued.
  • After Midnight: Although it dropped slightly past the peak, my glucose hovered stubbornly around 140 mg/dL even by 1:00 AM.

Navigating Type 1 Diabetes: My Journey to Mastering Blood Sugar Control

By the time I hit the three-week mark of my grueling hospital stay, I could physically feel my body making a dramatic recovery. The self-injections before meals and the constant blood sugar monitoring—which initially filled me with anxiety and dread—have now become a natural, essential part of my daily routine. Seeing my numbers steadily improve has given me the confidence to face my body and my health with a positive, proactive mindset.

【Quick Summary】

  • My muscle and kidney levels, which were looking incredibly grim, have plummeted back down, meaning I am officially out of the danger zone.
  • My blood sugar levels—essentially my body’s past report card—are still a bit on the high side, but compared to the sheer panic of when I was first admitted, they have improved massively.
  • Thanks to my daily insulin injections, my blood sugar has stabilized within a healthy, body-friendly range. I've come to see these shots not as a chore, but as a vital ritual that does the job my pancreas can no longer do.

🔍 The Pancreatic Cancer Scare: Looking Back at the Results

  • My blood test showed tumor markers above normal, with CEA at "6.5" and CA19-9 at "45". When doctors first mentioned a possible pancreatic cancer scare, my mind went completely blank with shock.
  • Fortunately, a prompt contrast-enhanced CT scan revealed no sign of tumors, conspicuous lesions, or abnormal blood flow around the pancreas.
  • It turns out the spiked levels weren't caused by cancer, but were likely a temporary reaction to severe high blood sugar and intense, systemic inflammation.
  • As my diabetes treatment progressed and the bodily inflammation subsided, the tumor marker levels naturally dropped, leading to a final diagnosis of negative (all clear).

📈 My Hospital Stats: Blood Sugar Trends and Vital Signs

  • My muscle enzyme level (CPK), which had skyrocketed to over 10,000 upon admission, plummeted to a perfectly healthy 58 U/L.
  • My rapidly deteriorating kidney function marker (creatinine) also dropped to 0.86 mg/dL—a massive sigh of relief.
  • My HbA1c (the report card for blood sugar over the last few months) stands at 7.4%. It's still slightly elevated, but it represents a dramatic improvement.
  • Thanks to daily insulin, my once-sky-high blood sugar has stabilized at a gentle, body-friendly 137 mg/dL.
  • While I still face the daily annoyance of the occasional painful prick when a needle hits a nerve, or minor swelling like a mosquito bite, I’m back to strength training and walking for rehabilitation without any issues.

🔍 Autoimmune Pancreatitis Suspicions and Lab Results

As mentioned above, my overall health is improving, and my blood levels are returning to normal. With my tumor markers dropping back to healthy ranges, the pancreatic cancer scare has been officially ruled out.

  • However, my blood work revealed IgG4 levels above "140 mg/dL" (or an equivalent abnormal elevation in immunoglobulins), a key marker for immune function. This raised concerns about possible Autoimmune Pancreatitis.
  • This is a specific condition where the immune system goes haywire and attacks the pancreas. Confirming a diagnosis requires not just blood data, but also visual confirmation of physical changes (such as sausage-like swelling) via imaging.
  • In my case, the contrast-enhanced CT scan showed no typical signs of abnormalities, such as diffuse enlargement or pancreatic duct narrowing.

Nevertheless, the suspicion of autoimmune pancreatitis still lingers, meaning I will continue with follow-up observation and re-testing.

Japanese Food Glucose Rush & Crash: My Nightly Blood Sugar Battle with Ramune (90% Dextrose)!

※Please note: This article contains affiliate advertising (PR).

Last night was an epic battle against hypoglycemia, with my Apple Watch alerts constantly waking me up. I managed to bounce back thanks to the 'Morinaga Ramune' I keep by my bed, but the graph's distinct peaks and valleys vividly show just how directly its main ingredient – glucose – impacted my system.

【Summary: My Late-Night Glucose Combat Log】

  • Each time the alert screamed, I popped 8, then 5, then another 8 pieces of Ramune (90% glucose), just barely making it through the night.
  • While the immediate impact of glucose was undeniable, the data clearly illustrated its downside: 'rapid absorption equals short-lived effects.'
  • The rollercoaster-like pattern on the graph vividly highlights the 'snack struggle' – how my blood sugar would shoot up from a low, only to plummet back down again.

【Ramune (90% Dextrose): Ingredient Analysis & Graph Correlation】

  • The Ramune I consumed is made up of 90% 'hydrous crystalline glucose' (dextrose).

  • As a monosaccharide, glucose requires virtually no digestion or absorption process. It quickly enters the bloodstream directly from the small intestine after consumption, possessing the incredibly powerful ability to spike blood sugar levels through the fastest possible route.
  • The sharp, mountainous peaks visible on the graph, including the 'Δ+20 (Peak),' are a direct consequence of this high-purity glucose flooding my bloodstream. Its rapid effectiveness is nothing short of a 'wonder drug.'

  • However, as this data clearly shows, the phenomenon of my blood sugar plummeting again shortly after consumption, triggering yet another alert, is likely due to glucose's rapid absorption meaning its effects wear off just as fast. This characteristic perfectly intertwined with my nighttime blood sugar patterns.
  • The varying intake of 8, 5, and 8 pieces reflects my panic and the perceived blood sugar recovery at those moments. Yet, observing the graph's patterns, I deeply regret that I should have exercised more careful, situation-specific control, rather than creating dramatic spikes with large, sudden doses.
  • What caused this particular episode of hypoglycemia? Was it my first run and strength training session in a while? Still unclear???
  • Kudos to my Libre 2 and Apple Watch for their excellent low blood sugar alerts, by the way!
